Madeira Hotels and Accommodation

(Madeira, Portugal)

Picture of popular resort complex in FunchalAccommodation is spread all over the island of Madeira, and so it is always worth planning ahead and deciding whereabouts you would like to base yourself. The biggest choice of hotels and similar lodging is to be found within Funchal, on the southerly coast of Madeira and never far from the beaches.

However, other very notable resorts reside around areas of the coastline, such as Boaventura, Sao Jorge and Sao Vicente on the northerly shore, and Santa Cruz on the south-easterly coast, near to Funchal Airport. Do note that the winter months mark the low season in Madeira and at this time, accommodation is at its cheapest, with hotels often offering hefty discounts, with Christmas time being the exception to this.

Where to Stay

Much of the action on Madeira is to be found on the southerly side of the island, and so hotels and resorts are especially plentiful here.

Most holiday makers choose accommodation sited in or around Funchal, with popular choices including the Quinta Da Bela Vista on the Caminho Avista Navios, the Madeira Regency Palace on the Estrada Monumental, and the Savoy Resort Madeira on the Avenida Do Infante. All of these hotels feature rooms boasting exceptional views of the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains.

On the north-easterly side of Madeira, hotels are to be found in numbers in Machico, Porto da Cruz, Santana and Santo da Serra.

The Estalagem SerraGolf complex is located within Santo da Serra and known on Madeira for combining accommodation with an acclaimed 27-hole golf course, where hotel guests can enjoy discounted green fees. For some of the best views, consider staying at the Quinta do Furao Hotel on the Achada do Gramacho, within the easterly resort of Santana, where it is possible to see the distant mountain peaks on the island of Porto Santo.
